About this book

The Haunter of the Dark concerns an old church in Providence, Rhode Island, shunned and feared by everyone who knew it. The narrative says cautious investigators will hesitate to challenge the common belief that Robert Blake died from lightning or a profound nervous shock associated with an electrical discharge. The narrative leaves readers to judge between two schools of opinion and proposes to summarize events from their chief actor’s expressed point of view through a close study of the diary.

Blake examines gleaming bones, finding some badly scattered, a few apparently dissolved at the ends, and others yellowed with vague suggestions of charring. The coroner’s physician reports electrical shock, or nervous tension induced by an electrical discharge, as the cause of death, despite the unbroken window.
