About this book

The White Feather Hex is by Don Peterson, and carries the line "You waited till the feather turned red." The account says it all started with a Dutchman, a Pennsylvania Dutchman named Peter Scheinberger, who tilled a weather beaten farm back in the hills. Peter's life could have gone on unnoticed among these forgotten hills, except for the strange visit of Martin G. Mirestone, student of German history.

Peter ties a feather with a piece of black thread, suspends it from one of the rafters in the room, and says "Just sit and watch." A light red tint creeps up the feather's quill, spreading slowly outwards towards the fringed edges, until it reaches a pure blood red. Peter cries "Hurry outside," and says the goat can be seen in its last seconds of life. Mirestone turns and fumbles with some barbed wire fencing that has snagged him in the dark.
