The Helpful Hand of God

The Helpful Hand of God, by Tom Godwin, carries the line that "God helps those who wisely help themselves". A quoted entry from the "Vogarian Revised Encyclopedia" says that "a term of contempt" was applied by the Vogarian State Press to members of the Church Of The Golden Rule "because of their opposition to the war then being planned against Alkoria". The guard officer, Dalon, tells Y'Nor "The native is here, sir".

The text presents the leader of the Saints as "the man whose resistance Y'Nor would have to break", "A frail, white-bearded old man". Y'Nor says to Brenn "you hold, I believe, the impressive titles of Chief Executive of the Council Of Provinces and Supreme Elder of the Churches Of The Golden Rule". Y'Nor says "I understand you can produce Elusium X fuel?" and the old man answers "Yes, sir. Our Dr. Larue told me the process is within our ability." The red-haired personnel supervisor says "Ask him whether he wants us to produce fuel or make love!", and Dalon answers "Florence, are you trying to get me ruined?"
