About this book
Sydney T. Klein's Science and the Infinite, subtitled Or Through a Window in the Blank Wall, was first published in November 1912 and reprinted in September 1917. It is dedicated to the Right Hon. Arthur James Balfour. In the preface the author says he prepared it at the request of people who found consolation in some of its thoughts. A caption in the front matter reads "The Mystery of the Apex," marked View No. 3.
One passage uses light and shadow to argue that negatives such as evil, ugliness and ignorance have no real existence, as a shadow is only the absence of light, and that the physical world may teach us about the spiritual. Another describes an iron mass that is silent until small rubbers tipped with cork or leather touch it, when it gives out sounds the author calls its partials. A further passage quotes Mozart on how musical thoughts come to him.
