About this book
The History and Poetry of Finger-rings is a book by Charles Edwards. The book carries the line "My ring I hold dear as my finger; 'tis part of it," credited to Shakspeare. The book lists a preface by R. H. Stoddard. A note says a poem has now become so scarce, and is so pleasing, that its writers are induced to insert it, and gives it the address To the Idol of Mine Eyes and the Delight of Mine Heart, Anne Hathaway.
A quoted notice says it understands from Mr. Bradly that the stone has been in the Bradly family for more than one hundred years, and describes the stone as about as large as a piece of chalk, perfectly porous. The text says that while Joan was a prisoner in the castle of Aversa, two Hungarian barons, in complete armor, presented themselves before her. A verse says to take a ring of gold and wrap it safe in some secret fold, and adds that, once at my mother’s castle gate, that ring will gain admittance straight.
