About this book

George Frederick Kunz writes about finger rings and the customs attached to them. The pages sampled describe toe rings worn by some Hindu married women and by men, silver toe rings from the Madras Presidency, and a large ring on the little finger of a Ceylon merchant shown in a photograph caption.

Other passages cover a fifteenth-century Persian ring in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, a gold ring decorated with white enamelled crocodiles that was sold at the American Art Galleries in February 1913, and the words spoken at the coronation of French kings as the Coronation Ring was handed over. A deed of gift from about 1200 A.D. records a gold ring set with a sapphire, and a nearly pure gold ring found by a farmer near Woodstock, Oxfordshire, is also mentioned.
