About this book
The Kiltartan History Book is by Lady Gregory, with illustrations by Robert Gregory. Among others, the contents list names The Ancient Times, Goban the Builder, The Battle of Clontarf, The Battle of Aughrim, Patrick Sarsfield and Robert Emmet. The tale headed A Witty Wife says the Goban Saor was a mason and a smith, and he could do all things, and he was very witty.
In one tale, a speaker says that he saw O'Connell in Galway one time and could not get anear him, and that all the nations of the world were gathered there to see him. The notes say the book is named because it is at the writer's own door, in the Barony of Kiltartan, and that the writer heard a great number of the stories from beggars, pipers, travelling men, and such pleasant company.
