About this book
The King's Threshold; and On Baile's Strand is volume three of Plays for an Irish Theatre, by W. B. Yeats. A note says both plays were written for Mr. Fay's Irish National Theatre and are founded on Old Irish Prose Romances. A speaker says his nephew thinks that Seanchan never sat down at the king's table again, but went to some quiet green place in the hills with Fedelm, his sweetheart.
The King tells Seanchan that Seanchan has refused everybody the King has sent, and that the King comes himself to bid him put his pride as far away as the King has put his own. The King brings Seanchan bread in his own hands and bids him eat it, and Seanchan, pushing the bread away with Fedelm's hand, says "We have refused it." Cuchullain takes feathers from the fool's hair and wipes the blood from his sword with them, and asked by Fintain whose blood it is, answers that it is that young champion's.
