About this book
The Lay-Man's Sermon upon the Late Storm is by Daniel Defoe, and is described as held forth at an Honest Coffee-House-Conventicle. The sermon takes its text from Nahum, which reads The Lord has his way in the Whirle-Wind and in the Storm, and the Clouds are the Dust of his Feet. The sermon says the words of its text were spoken of God going to chastise a powerful, populous, wealthy and most reprobate city.
The sermon repeats the lines that the Lord is slow to Anger, and Great in Power and will not at all acquit the wicked, and that God is Jealous, and the Lord Revengeth, the Lord Revengeth and is Furious. The sermon says that if Mr. Sachaverell, with his Bloody Flag, and Banner of Defiance, were indicted for Moderation, the speaker verily believes no jury would bring him in guilty. The sermon asks how many thousands in England would, if the whole navy of England had been at stake, rather have lost it than the Bill against Occasional Conformity.
