About this book
The text says the address was delivered in the City Hall in Chicago on Thursday afternoon, July 25, 1850. A note says a eulogy on President Zachary Taylor, unknown even to Lincoln specialists, was discovered by sheer accident after lying buried for almost three quarters of a century in the columns of a single newspaper. The text says President Taylor died at Washington on July 9, 1850, and that the disease was diagnosed as cholera morbus.
A set of verses in the text lists the peasant, the herdsman, the beggar, the saint and the sinner, and says that we are the same our fathers have been. A speaker says the American people, in electing General Taylor to the Presidency, showed their high appreciation of his sterling but inobtrusive qualities.
