About this book
The Lion's Whelp, A Story of Cromwell's Time, is by Amelia E. Barr. Amelia E. Barr is named as the author of, among others, The Bow of Orange Ribbon, I, Thou, and the Other One, and The Maid of Maiden Lane. The contents list names chapters headed, among others, Swaffham and de Wick and Doctor John Verity.
Swaffham comes up the steps with the clatter of his arms, and Doctor Verity comes into the hall crying "Is it true, Israel? Is it true?" Large iron gates lead into de Wick park, with an avenue bordered with ash trees and a house pieced on to the broad walls of an Augustine monastery. Cromwell, at the head of his guards, rides at an easy canter down the street, and every man bares his head.
