About this book

The Little Book of the Flag is a book by Eva March Tappan. The contents list names chapters such as The Flags that brought the Colonists, The Pine-Tree Flag and Others and Liberty and Liberty Poles, among others. The text says that when James became King of England, he united the two flags by placing on a blue background the upright cross of St. George over the diagonal cross of St. Andrew.

One day John Endicott led the little company of Salem militia out for a drill, saw the cross hanging over the governor's gate, and found that the sight was more than he could bear. Francis Scott Key died in Baltimore in 1843, and is buried in Frederick, Maryland. The text describes a monument in Baltimore, reared in honor of Francis Scott Key, that is surmounted by the figure of the poet, who waves his hat with one hand and with the other points joyfully toward the fort.
