About this book

The Little Savage is by Captain Frederick Marryat. The narrator says he believes he is the first instance of a boy being left alone upon an uninhabited island. The narrator says his first recollections are of being in company with a man upon this island, where they walked often along the sea-shore. The narrator calls the man very unkind to him, which may appear strange, as the narrator was the only companion he had, and says the man was of a morose and gloomy disposition.

A tornado in the text lasted two hours without interruption, while the lightning darted in every direction, with peals of thunder which were deafening. A narrator straining his eyes to see the vessel sees in a flash of lightning that she was dismasted, rolling in the awful breakers. The narrator calls the appearance of Jackson the most unpleasant part of the vision.
