About this book
Jimmy stands on the deck of a shantyboat and watches the Natchez Belle draw near. Jimmy has a wild talent for collecting things, and has collected forty empty tobacco tins, a down-at-heels shoe, a Sears Roebuck catalogue and more rolled up newspapers than he could ever read. Uncle Al, blowing on a vinegar jug and making sweet music, says that some day he will buy a brand new store suit, trade the jig jug for a big round banjo and head off to the Mardi Gras.
Jed Harmon reaches into a box at his feet for another dynamite stick and passes the sticks along to his brother. Uncle Al is shooting, his face as grim as death. Jimmy sees the second dynamite stick spinning through the air. A speaker tells Jimmy that he must forget again, just as Uncle Al will forget, until "we come for you."
