About this book
The Oriental Story Book is presented as a collection of tales translated from the German of Wilhelm Hauff. The introduction describes Queen Phantasie ruling a distant kingdom whose evergreen gardens are said never to lose the sun. The caravan crosses a wilderness of sand and sky, its approach announced by the bells of camels and horses and a cloud of dust.
Mustapha considers pursuing Thiuli-Kos but reflects that a single man cannot prevail against the powerful traveller or rescue his prey. Mustapha plans to enter the house of Thiuli-Kos under the name of the Bashaw of Sulieika and attempt to deliver two unfortunate maidens.
