The Princess of the Atom is by Ray Cummings. A teaser says that giants appeared off the coast of New England on the day beautiful Dianne returned from oblivion, and that this mysterious beauty had disappeared from the home of her guardian, Dr. Ferrule, and had been sought in vain. The teaser calls Dianne a princess of a world too small to be seen.
The narrator sits alone at night beside a rock fragment with a microscope ready, and wonders what Drake and Ahlma, among others, might be doing down there in the Infinitely Small. One night in May, a tiny human figure, small as a pinhead, appears upon the jagged piece of rock: a man in tattered, blood-stained garments, clinging to the rock and waving a white flag frantically at the narrator. The narrator and others search a room for a figure that has climbed to the baseboard of the wall and run along the narrow ledge, like searching for an insect which every instant was dwindling toward invisibility.
