About this book
Freudian Slip is by Franklin Abel. A line under the title asks whether things are exactly what they seem, whether life is real and whether life is earnest, and answers "Well, that depends." On the day the Earth vanished, Herman Raye was earnestly fishing for trout, hip-deep in a mountain stream in upstate New York. Herman is a tall, serious, sensitive, healthy, well-muscled young man with an outsize jaw and a brush of red-brown hair.
Herman wants very much to stop fishing and look down to see if that horrifying void is still there, but he can't do it. A single glimpse shows nothing, the abysmal color of a moonless night, pierced by the diamond points of a half-dozen incredible stars. Secundus says he is, so to speak, saturated with the thoughts and habits of human beings, who are, you must admit, a garrulous race.
