About this book

A dying king and a stolen lock of hair set royal power against hidden sorcery in an imagined land of hot plains and mountain passes. In Vendhya, the Devi Yasmina watches her brother suffer while Khemsa explains how the Black Seers of Yimsha have reached him through magic. Political interests run alongside supernatural threats: Kerim Shah serves a foreign ruler, while Khemsa answers to the seers.

Conan enters a world where strength with a weapon offers only part of the answer to danger. In the mountain scene, he and Yasmina witness Khemsa resist four former masters in a contest of wills, with Gitara caught in the struggle. Robert E. Howard combines court intrigue, physical peril and uncanny powers in this fantasy adventure. Readers interested in Conan will find a story whose tension comes from the meeting of human loyalties and forces that seem beyond human control.
