About this book
The Romance of Leonardo da Vinci, the Forerunner is presented as an exclusively authorised translation from the Russian. Giovanni marvels at the crimson of the Saviour's blood among colours described as dark but possessing the gleam of jewels. Giovanni leaps from his bed and dresses without another word after being told that Messer Leonardo will be present.
Boltraffio asks for a place where the man under discussion speaks plainly, and Cesare's reply describes concealment, feigning and riddles. The narrative describes a painter's reputation being crushed after the pope's jest, with the world forgetting the painter as it forgets the dead.
