About this book
The Search for the Silver City is a tale of adventure in Yucatan by James Otis. The introduction quotes a passage describing a large region between Chiapas, Tabasco, Yucatan and Guatemala that is, in the words quoted, almost as unknown as the interior of Africa.
In one scene the steam yacht Sea Dream lies at anchor off Cottage City. Teddy, who has never been on the water except to cross from New York to Brooklyn or Jersey City, finds the swaying yacht hard to bear, and talk turns to going ashore to see the town. In another passage Cummings says that the treatment the people who kept their city free of the conqueror received from the Spaniards is told from father to son. Neal answers that Cummings also came hoping to take away their treasure, and Cummings agrees. In a third, Teddy jokes about how easy it would be to carry some silver images.
