About this book

The preface traces the volume to an essay on the lost treatise against Christianity by Celsus, known through the reply of Origen of Alexandria. The preface says that the essay expounded the doctrine of the Logos and its place in Christian teaching, with reference to modern thought. The discussion of Celsus says that the loss or possible destruction of his manuscripts has deprived the history of philosophy and religions of much material.

The text distinguishes the objective body perceived by the senses from something subjective which the five senses cannot perceive. The discussion uses the Vedantic term Âtman for the Self and describes the Self as existing because it perceives.
