The book is titled "MEMORIES A Story of German Love" and credited to F. Max Müller. The front matter says the book was "Translated from the German of MAX MULLER by George P. Upton". The translator’s preface says, "The translation of any work is at best a difficult task."

The contents list, among others, "FIRST MEMORY", "SECOND MEMORY" and "LAST MEMORY". A passage says, "Yet it is so beautiful, recalling the spring-time of life, to look back and remember one’s self." The section headed "SIXTH MEMORY" has a knock at the door, and "my old doctor, the Hofrath, entered," who is called "the friend, the body-and-soul-guardian of our entire little village."

About the author

F. Max Müller

Friedrich Max Müller (1823-1900) was a German-born philologist and Orientalist who spent most of his career at the University of Oxford. He was among the founders of Indian studies in the Western academy and edited The Sacred Books of the East, a fifty-volume series of English translations.
