F. Max Müller

Friedrich Max Müller (1823-1900) was a German-born philologist and Orientalist who spent most of his career at the University of Oxford. He was among the founders of Indian studies in the Western academy and edited The Sacred Books of the East, a fifty-volume series of English translations. His work on comparative religion, mythology, and the Rigveda made him one of the most widely read scholars of the Victorian era.
