About this book
The Sleeping Bard carries the subtitle Or, Visions of the World, Death, and Hell. The preface says The Sleeping Bard was originally written in the Welsh language, and was published about the year 1720. The volume is marked as translated from the Cambrian British by George Borrow.
A first-person speaker says they made no stop until he found himself by the side of a huge castle, the most beautiful he had ever seen, with a large pool or moat surrounding it. The text names Justice upon his supreme seat, holding the keys of Hell, at a separate and distinct tribunal over the chasm, to pronounce judgment upon the damned. A speaker addressing Asmodeus says all remember his great services of yore, and that no one keeps his prisoners more firmly under the lock.
