About this book
The Spell of Scotland belongs to the Spell Series, whose volumes each have one or more colored plates and many illustrations. The book says of Berwick-upon-Tweed that the phrase our town still runs in the acts of Parliament and in the royal proclamations, and that the town is not England's and not Scotland's. The text says the Tweed is spanned by the Royal Border Bridge, opened in 1850 and called the last Act of Union.
Malcolm is said to have fled from the red wrath of Macbeth to the court of Edward the Confessor. Princess Margaret, fleeing with her brother and sister to her mother's people in Bohemia, was wrecked far north in the Firth of Forth, according to the text. The text quotes verse in which Kirk Alloway seem'd in a bleeze.
