About this book
For Thérèse of Lisieux, religious life takes shape in ordinary duties, difficult conversations and the effort to put another person first. Her autobiography follows memories of a Catholic household, her wish to enter the Carmel, a pilgrimage to Rome and her life within the community. Family history and spiritual reflection sit alongside accounts of the responsibilities that come with her vocation.
One passage considers the demands of guiding novices: she must notice their faults without making her own preferences the measure of their progress. She describes restraint even in conversation, choosing to listen when a subject no longer interests her. This edition also gathers letters, prayers, selected poems, counsels and reminiscences.
