About this book

The Story of Magellan and The Discovery of the Philippines is a book by Hezekiah Butterworth. The text asks why a name was cast out and answers that Magellan saw his duty in a larger life than in the restrictions of a provincial court.

A quoted account says that, before mass, there were fifty men baptized. A quoted account says the Prince was named Don Fernand, after the brother of the Emperor, and that the Moor was given the name of Christopher. A chaplain and some others went on shore to baptize the Queen, who came with forty ladies and was named Jehanne, like the mother of the Emperor, according to the quoted account.
