About this book
A telegram from Colorado offers Frederick Cavendish a reason to leave New York and return to the prospecting life he once shared with Jim Westcott. Before setting out, he quarrels with his spendthrift cousin John and asks a lawyer to prepare a will that directs most of his fortune to charities. The lawyer's next move raises doubts about the privacy of that arrangement.
Randall Parrish combines an inheritance mystery with a Western adventure in which private papers, money and whispered information carry real danger. In the middle of the story, Westcott puzzles over Miss Donovan's disappearance and receives an account from a waitress that challenges a supposed farewell note. A hotel breakfast becomes an occasion for sharing a dangerous secret. Readers who enjoy suspicious documents and witnesses speaking in confidence will find a mystery that moves between city wealth and a Colorado mining setting.
