About this book
The Student's Mythology is a compendium of Greek, Roman, Egyptian, Assyrian, Persian, Hindoo, Chinese, Thibetian, Scandinavian, Celtic, Aztec, and Peruvian mythologies, arranged for the use of schools and academies. The contents list for a chapter names Mythology of Scandinavia, Account of the Creation and Form of the Earth, among others. A question-and-answer entry asks who Orestes was and answers that he was the son of Agamemnon and Clytemnestra.
An entry on Simonides says this poet excelled particularly in elegiac verse, and that his elegy took the prize when the most distinguished poets of Greece wrote verses in honor of those who fell at Marathon. An entry on Procopius calls him one of the most celebrated historians of the Eastern Empire.
