About this book

Six girls in the New Hampshire town of Sunbridge call themselves the Happy Hexagons, and this summer they are going to Texas. Genevieve Hartley, a ranch girl who spent the winter at school in the East, has invited them to her father's Six Star Ranch, and he pays for the trip. For Cordelia, an orphaned niece of the town minister who has spent years helping with the housework and the children, it is the first real holiday she has ever had.

The book follows the girls from the train ride to the ranch house, where they meet cowboys, ride ponies, see cattle in a stampede and find an injured man lying in the prairie grass. A visit to the Alamo and a hermit named Joe appear in the chapter list.

The novel came out in 1913 under the name Eleanor Stuart, one of the pen names of Eleanor H. Porter, and it is a lively girls' adventure of the early twentieth century.
