About this book
The Teaching of Geometry is a book by David Eugene Smith. Its preface begins by saying that a book on the teaching of geometry may be planned in divers ways, and lists some of them.
One passage asks why geometry has a place in the schools of every civilized country if it is not studied chiefly because it is practical or because it trains the memory, and quotes William J. Locke's words on teaching it. Another gives advice on proofs, such as replacing a term like median or isosceles with its definition, and gives a bibliography of works on geometrical problems. A further passage explains Cavalieri's Theorem on solids of equal volume.
