About this book
This is Petrus Ramus's geometry in an old English translation. A preface to the English text says Greek and Latin terms commonly used by geometers have been set down in English as well as the translators could, and that passages in which the author defends his method against Aristotle, Euclid and Proclus were left out. It adds that propositions from Ptolemy's Almagest were put into the fifth book, out of Finkius's Geometria Rotundi.
The contents list opens with books on a magnitude, a line, an angle and a figure, then moves on to triangles, the right angle, the quadrate and the oblong, with page numbers shown. Statements are numbered, and many are followed by a short reason citing other propositions. One passage explains the gnomon of a parallelogram; another argues that a five-sided figure has equal sides. The spelling is that of early modern English.
