About this book

The Path-Way to Knowledg, Containing the First Principles of Geometrie, is by Robert Record. The text says that in the most busy time of all his wars against Darius king of Persia, when he heard that Aristotle had put forth certain books of such knowledge, Alexander was offended with Aristotle and wrote to him a letter. The letter tells Aristotle that he has not done well to put forth those books of secrete phylosophy, and asks wherein shall we excel others, if the knowledge that we have studied shall be made common to all other men.

A list in the text includes Euclides woorkes in foore partes: the fyrst parte of platte formes, the second of numbres and quantitees surde or irrationall, the third of bodies and solide formes, and the fourthe of perspectiue, and other thynges thereto annexed. The fourth Theoreme says that when two lines are drawn from the ends of any one line and meet in any point, it is not possible to draw two other lines of like length each to his match that shall begin at the same points, and end in any other point than the two first did.
