About this book
The Telescope is by Louis Bell. The preface says the book is written for the many observers, who use telescopes for study or pleasure and desire more information about their construction and properties. The preface says the book, not being a handbook in two or more thick quartos, attempts neither exhaustive technicalities nor popular descriptions of great observatories and their work.
The text says an excellent type of the simple spring driving clock is shown in Fig. 136 as constructed by Zeiss. The text says the copper plates of the Selenographia, representing every phase of the moon, placed the lunar details with remarkable accuracy and formed for more than a century the best lunar atlas available. The text describes a form made up of a triple achromatic field lens, a dense flint between two crowns, with a plano-convex eye lens of much shorter focus, and the writer is inclined to rate it as the best of two-lens oculars.
