About this book
The Threshold Covenant is a study of the threshold of a house and of customs and beliefs gathered around it, by Henry Clay Trumbull. A transcriber's note explains that the few Hebrew words in the text appear in transliteration, each also transliterated by the author, and that the book has a topical index.
One passage recalls a Greek custom of welcoming a victor of the Olympian games into his city through a breach in the walls instead of the gates. Another describes modern Egyptian customs, including the welcome offered at the entrance of the palace when the new khedive came to it in 1882. Another turns to the Hebrew word pesakh, translated passover, which comes from a root meaning to cross over.
