Gustav Karpeles read a paper titled "The Union of Jewish Literary Societies of Germany" at the Conference of Jewish Literary Societies on June 29, 1902. The founding of the Berlin Verein fuer juedische Geschichte und Literatur, which Karpeles and others created, is covered in the book. Numerous other German villages immediately adopted this association as an example. Under his direction, these finally came together to become the Verband der Vereine fuer juedische Geschichte und Literatur in 1893. For individuals who are interested in Jewish literature and history, it is an invaluable resource.
