About this book
Karl Ludwig Sand, by Alexandre Dumas, Pere, comes from the Eight Volume set Celebrated Crimes. A passage says that on the 22nd of March, 1819, a young man some twenty-three or twenty-four years old paused upon a little eminence on the road between Kaiserthal and Mannheim.
A passage says Sand, who was one of the most eager fighters, resolved to fortify the tower of St. Catherine and to retire into it at the next battle if its issue proved unfavourable to him. The text says Sand inquired about the path in which a man generally walked and about the clothes he wore, never having seen him, and that Kotzebue chanced to take another path. A narrator says that, in spite of his active investigations, the details still remained extremely incomplete, and mentions the little Protestant cemetery where Sand and Kotzebue are buried at twenty paces from each other.
