Jews and Judaism in the nineteenth century examines changing communal life and public culture during an era of emancipation and social reform. The Union of Jewish Literary Societies of Germany documents the federation that Karpeles helped lead, an organization created to support historical and literary study through local societies. His career also included editorial work for the Allgemeine Zeitung des Judentums.
