About this book

Whistling Dan Barry may be the strangest hero the Western ever produced: gentle, almost childlike, until something in him turns and the yellow light comes into his eyes. He rides a black stallion no one else can touch and keeps a wolf-dog named Bart, and when Jim Silent's gang beats him half to death, Dan comes after them the way a wolf comes after anything. Max Brand published this in 1919 and it made his name, half frontier realism and half myth about the animal that civilization never quite tamed out of a man. Kate Cumberland loves him and knows exactly what she is losing him to. Read the complete novel here as a free PDF and EPUB edition.
