About this book
The Wilderness Fugitives is by Edward Sylvester Ellis, and a printed line asks, "WHAT IN BLAZES ARE YOU AIMING AT?" Ned and Rosa sit on a fallen tree, and "the space between the two was reduced almost to no space at all." Rosa asks Edward, "when Colonel Butler and his Tories and Indians leave the valley, what are you going to do?"
Ned answers that he has thought he "would join the Continental Army under Washington" and says, "I so love and revere that great man, that I can fight better if near him." Rosa says that Lena-Wingo "told me that he has spoken to him many times, and he looks upon him as if he were some one sent by the Great Spirit to save our country." Lena-Wingo is "desirous of learning what the party, as a whole, would do, now that it was clear that the fugitives had succeeded in crossing the Susquehanna in spite of all the preparations to prevent it."
