About this book
The Young Treasure Hunter, or Fred Stanley's Trip to Alaska, is by Frank V. Webster. At a meal, Fred takes oatmeal, though he does not like it, because the house holds only four eggs and no money to send out and buy more, and Fred wants his mother to have the remaining two. The text explains that if the miner finds a good lead, or mine, a large share of it goes to the man who grub-staked him.
Mr. Baxter remarks that they are getting to the end of this wilderness. The text says that a plain leads to the second range of mountains, in which is located the waterfall, near the cave of which the gold is supposed to be buried. Mr. Baxter exclaims, "It was the dogs that gnawed through the bonds and released us," and adds that the thongs were freshly cut from some hide.
