About this book
In The Yillian Way by Keith Laumer, the ceremonious protocol of the Yills is called impressive, colorful and, in the long run, deadly. Jame Retief, vice-consul and third secretary in the Diplomatic Corps, followed the senior members of the terrestrial mission across the tarmac and into the gloom of the reception building. The ambassador describes Terrestrials as a kindly, peace-loving race who seek only a reasonable division of spheres of influence with the Yill.
One speaker says the group was herded into a baggage warehouse at the terminal and then hauled to the place in a garbage truck. A Yill offers orange cigars, stuffs one in his nostril, and says it is a pleasure to deal with fellow professionals who understand the meaning of protocol.
