About this book
Theory and Practice of the Confessional is a guide to administering the sacrament of penance. The discussion of approbation says that a candidate's fitness must be ascertained or reasonably presumed, although a lack of fitness does not invalidate the approbation. The jurisdiction chapter states that the Pope's jurisdiction is immediate and extends to all the faithful, citing a decree of the Vatican Council.
The instructions for a dying person require the priest to repeat a general accusation and an earnest act of contrition in a few words and a loud voice. The guidance on illness says that, when careful examination of conscience would cause grave harm or greatly increase suffering and weakness, the priest should seek contrition and give absolution even after an incomplete confession.
