About this book
This volume of The Expositor's Bible, edited by the Rev. W. Robertson Nicoll, is George Adam Smith's second volume on The Book of the Twelve Prophets. Its title page lists Zephaniah, Nahum, Habakkuk, Obadiah, Haggai, Zechariah I. to VIII. and Malachi, and a chapter takes up Joel ii. 18 to 32. A transcriber's note says the footnotes are renumbered from 1 to 1,560 and placed at the end of the text.
One discussion concerns a chapter of Habakkuk that Smith calls the Psalm. It weighs the view that the phrase Thine anointed points to a date after the Exile, and it notes critics who maintain that the chapter is genuine. A further note mentions Nowack's Die Kleinen Propheten. Chapter XXIX, Prosperity and the Spirit, compares how the Authorised Version and the Revised English Version read the opening verbs of the passage in Joel.
