About this book
Thomas Jefferson, the Apostle of Americanism is a study of Thomas Jefferson by Gilbert Chinard. The book names George Wythe among the true masters of Thomas Jefferson, a man whose virtue was of the purest tint, his integrity inflexible, and his justice exact. The book says that Jefferson learned from conversations around the table, after bottles of port had been brought, more than any student at William and Mary ever acquired in college.
Jefferson is shown writing to T. M. Randolph on May 15, 1791 to express his discontent at the attitude of the two leading papers of Philadelphia. The letter adds that they have been trying to get another weekly or half weekly paper set up, excluding advertisements. The book says that Jefferson kept, practically to his last day, his alertness, his encyclopædic curiosity and an extraordinary capacity for work.
