About this book
Three Years in Tibet is presented with the original Japanese illustrations, and the title material identifies Ekai Kawaguchi as late rector of Gohyakurakan Monastery in Japan. The travel account describes submitting a list of desired Scriptures in Samskṛṭ to a king, who gives collection instructions to a chamberlain. The account records thanks to Lord Buḍḍha and utas expressing the speaker's relief as doubts dissolve like snows upon the hills.
A description of wedding customs explains a belief that evil spirits or epidemic diseases may have followed the bride, and assigns a man at the bridegroom's gate the task of driving them away. The description gives the charm sword a mixture of baked flour, butter and water, fried hard and coloured with a plant's red juice.
