About this book

Tom Slade at Black Lake is by Percy Keese Fitzhugh, author of the Tom Slade and Roy Blakeley books, published with the approval of the Boy Scouts of America. A preface says several persons have asked when Tom Slade was ever going to grow up and cease to be a Scout, and answers that he is already grown up and that he is never going to cease to be a Scout. The text says the surest sign of all was the flood of applications for cabin accommodations at Temple Camp.

The text says Tom Slade's nerves had been made a wreck as a trifling incidental to making the world safe for democracy. The text says every log for this last cabin had to be felled and trimmed of its branches, and hauled singly up the hillside by means of the rope and pulleys. A character in the text goes over fields, through the brook, and up Hawk's Nest mountain, and into the denser woods beyond.
