About this book
The book is Tom Swift and His Air Scout, or Uncle Sam's Mastery of the Sky, by Victor Appleton. The chapter list includes A Sky Ride, A New Idea, The Big Offer, Mr. Damon's Whizzer, The Deserted Cabin and The Gold Tooth. The text describes a young lady, an exceedingly pretty one, who stands with one small, gloved hand on the outstretched wing of an aeroplane, and looks up at a young man, in a leather, fur-lined suit, who sits in the cockpit of the machine.
A character named Mr. Damon exclaims, Bless my mouse trap, I want to speak to you! Tom answers, with a laugh, that he has only just succeeded, by hard work, in getting Mary to a point where she has consented to take a sky ride. The text says that both Tom and Mr. Damon wondered who it was that had called for help. The text says Mr. Terrill was armed, Tom carried a flashlight, while Mr. Damon picked up a heavy club.
