About this book
Travels in the East Indian archipelago is by Albert S. Bickmore. The volume is dedicated to the generous friends of science in Boston and Cambridge, through whose liberality the travels herein described were made. The writer says he found, to his astonishment, that he was on a tongue of land between two deep, long holes or fissures, where great land-slides had recently occurred. The writer says the party reached the bottom safely and was glad to be off the volcano and landing on Banda Neira.
The text says that in the coast region the houses of the natives have high, sharp roofs and are covered with atap. The writer says that the next day he went westward to Waai.
