About this book
Sketches of Persia is by Sir John Malcolm, author of, among others, History of Persia and History of India. The contents list names chapters headed, among others, Voyage from Bombay to the Persian Gulf, Muscat, and The Persian Gulf and Abusheher.
The Imâm comes upon deck and stands while commanders who had returned from their voyage advance in their turns, according to their rank. The narrator says the security he observed merchants and other inhabitants, both Mahomedan and Hindu, enjoying at Muscat gave him a very pleasing impression of that place. The Elchee, quite delighted with the prospect, turns round to the governor and with assumed gravity proposes to change stations with him. In a story told in the first person, a thief seizes the speaker and says, Let me strip you, madam, of these unnecessary ornaments.
